Saturday, Nov. 5, 9 am-12 noon: Memoir That Matters: How to Get to the Story Behind The Story with Suzanne Roberts Have you always wanted to tell your story but worried that no one would want to hear it? We all have stories that matter, and this workshop will help you shape the details of your life into a story that will connect to readers. We will look at how to get to the real story, the story behind the story, the narrative that matters not just to you, but to a greater audience. The workshop will include writing... exercises, a craft discussion, and helpful tips to help you write your memoir and find your readers.
Saturday, Nov. 5, 1-4 pm: Breaking into Travel and Food Writing with Ann Marie Brown Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a travel or food writer? Maybe you already write your own travel or food blog and you’d like to take the next step and get paid for your byline. This class will teach you how to make your work attractive to magazine, newspaper, and web editors, including how to focus your topic, how to find and write timely “news hook” stories, how to locate the right publication and audience for your story, how to write a pitch letter, and how to negotiate fees and contracts.
Sunday, Nov. 6, 9 am-12 noon: Preparing Your Work for Publication with Kim Wyatt You've written a novel or have an idea for a non-fiction book. What next? In this session, you'll learn the steps necessary to get a manuscript noticed by a publisher, and how to avoid the most common mistakes when writing your query or preparing your proposal or manuscript. We'll also discuss the pros and cons of traditional publishing versus self-publishing.
Sunday, Nov. 6, 1-4 pm: Take a Walk with the Wordy Girls Unwind with the Wordy Girls under a canopy of massive palm trees at the Coachella Valley Preserve. Bring a pen and a notebook. As we walk, we'll offer up a few writing prompts to see what words the desert scenery inspires. This easy nature walk is suitable for all levels of hikers.
$225 for all sessions and Friday night event, or $75 per workshop. This weekend workshop is for women.
